Diversity and inclusion by the numbers: 2021
Diversity and inclusion are some of the important factors in making Wave, Wave. We believe in creating a truly diverse environment where everyone can build a successful career and feel welcomed, trusted, and valued.
However, creating this environment requires action, not just words. So, late last year, our People & Culture team conducted our annual anonymous survey on diversity and inclusion to help us understand where we’re doing well, and where we can still make things better. Here’s what we found.
Hiring for diversity and inclusion has continued to be a top priority, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. Since 2015, we’ve improved our overall gender split from 80% male / 20% female to 56% male / 42% female / 2% beyond the binary, with an increasing number of women and racialized people in senior roles. 57% of Wavers identify as a part of a racialized group. Our team also speaks an incredible 33 languages beyond English.
We have an age range from 20 to 60 years old with our average being 33 years. 1 in 5 employees identified as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. With 25% of Employees identifying as having some sort of accessibility need, we’re committed to supporting Wavers.
Creating true diversity also requires work well beyond what we look like, and we do everything we can to create a sense of belonging. That’s why we were thrilled to find that 91% of survey respondents said they feel respected at Wave.
Why it all matters so much
Diversity and inclusion aren’t just things we pay attention to because we have to. They allow us to challenge conventional thinking and unlock our fullest potential. That starts with truly inclusive hiring for every team in every department. Diverse teams create diverse thoughts, and set us apart from the crowd.
Despite a year filled with rapid transformations and paradigm shifts, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is as strong as ever. If anything, tough times like these call on us to make diversity and inclusion even more important. 93% of respondents told us they feel Wave values diversity. As proud as we are of that, there’s still work to be done, and we’re thrilled to take it on, together.
